Happy New Year! Time for a Life and Work Retrospective

Happy New Year everyone!

Did you know that this is a perfect time for life and work retrospective? Here is how to do it:

– Schedule a block of time (1-2 hrs at a minimum) offsite where there are no distractions.

– Perform a life and work review: how were the last 12 months? How do the last 12 months align with your values* and long term goals? Have you honored your values? Have you moved closer to your goals?

– If not, why? What do you need to change in order to be true to your values and move closer to your goals over the next 3 months?

– Develop and schedule action items for the next 3 months.

Life changing! Oh, and do these retrospectives regularly, quarterly is ideal. But even if it’s just an annual exercise, it’s exceptionally helpful.

You can do this review with or without a coach; both independent and guided reviews, when taken seriously and performed regularly, have the power to transform your life.

I’m wishing all of you a joyful year lived in alignment with your values.

*PS: If you don’t know what your values are, don’t panic (most people don’t know!), but do spend the time and the effort discerning what they are. Google “values clarifying exercise” and go through one. For example, Richard Barrett Values Center offers a brief, free survey of your values. This is one of the most important things you can do in moving towards a more meaningful and joyful life.
